Husky Lessons: Car-rides, training, and patience

A few weeks ago, Marsh had to endure his first long car ride. What was supposed to be an enjoyable adventure turned into 9 long hours of preventing him from jumping into the front of the car. So, we took this opportunity to train him and practice our own patience. We tried to use his “sit” command. This occasionally worked…..for about a minute at a time. We tried blocking the passage to the front with luggage. We tried using treats and chewies to keep him calm. Unfortunately, Marsh’s anxiety was overriding every bit of training, and our patience was dwindling.

And then we found a harness that buckles our dog into the seat. He felt safe. We felt safe. Sometimes, the simplest of inventions can be a handy thing.
